mons

A village of uncommon beauty
mons-ruelleMons is one of the highest villages in the canton of Fayence and the surrounding area.Mons is one of the highest villages in the canton of Fayence and the surrounding area. Mont Lachens, the highest point in the entire region at 1715 m, is located in Mons. Take a stroll through the village of Mons and you’ll notice the straight, old streets dating from the 10th and 13th centuries, lined with stone houses in the Château-Vieux quarter.

Fountains adorn the small public squares. Saint-Sébastien square will undoubtedly get your attention (a viewing table has been installed). You will have before you a magnificent and surprising view, where the sea can nearly always be seen along with the Lérins Iles off of Cannes and Fréjus Beach. At night you can see the periodic flashes from the Cap Camarat lighthouse, near Saint Tropez. You can even see Corsica when conditions are right.

A long history…
The Romans discovered the springs of Siagnole and, by means of major works of art, diverted the waters to Forum Julii (now called Fréjus).Learn more

In 1260, the village was growing and a new church was built. But the 15th century was an especially dramatic period for the people living in the Mons area.Learn more

In 1461, Antoine de Villeneuve relocated some 20 families from Figounia (near Vintimille), then, after seeing the character of these rugged workers, he brought in another 40 families to repopulate the town of Mons.Learn more

In 1580, the people of Mons, who were unfriendly toward their lord, chased him out along with his family.Learn more

More than 425 km of hiking trails are also available in the Saint-Raphaël / Pays de Fayence region, ranging from easy family walks to challenging hikes. So go out and discover our region's heritage on your own terms...More info...
