Pays de Fayence
 |
A rugged landscape
Located in the foothills of the Alps, the Pays de Fayence runs from north to south between Mont Lachens (1714 m) and the hills of Tanneron and Saint-Paul-en-Forêt.
The landscape is characterised by the gorges of Siagne and Siagnole, near Mons, an area of heath with sheep and oak. Farther to the south are the hills and hilltop villages of Seillans, Fayence, Montauroux and Callian where orchards, vineyards, flowers and olive groves predominate.
An exceptional natural setting
Today, the Pay de Fayence known for its many and varied opportunities for relaxation and recreation in a beautiful, protected natural environment: gliding, rowing and fishing on Lake Saint-Cassien, international-calibre golf courses, etc. |

The town of Saint-Raphaël also boasts an equally remarkable natural heritage:
Saint-Raphaël - Seaside are 36 km of jagged coastline

Beaches and coves
The town of Saint-Raphaël is quite spread out. Its 36 km of jagged coastline offers more than 30 beaches of various types: Fine sand or pebbles (Boulouris, Dramont and Agay beaches), shady strands, coves and calanques at Anthéor Le Trayas.
The Ports
All year round, the ports of Saint-Raphaël (Vieux Port, Santa Lucia, Boulouris, Poussaï and Agay) are places of lively activity, for some, a destination where you can take a quiet walk, for others, a point of departure for sports and adventure. Just a few meters from the town centre (and accessible on foot), the port of Santa Lucia is the third largest marina on the Côte d'Azur (1,600 berths and moorings).
The Coastal Trail,
runs from Port Santa Lucia to Beaumette Point and winds its way between the sea and the Estérel Massif, just a few meters above the waves, so clear that at times you can even see the beauty of the sea bottom. The trail takes about 2.5 hours (8.5 km).
L’Ile d’Or (the Golden Island)
At the foot of the majestic Dramont Massif, the l’Ile d’Or is ranked as one of the 60 most beautiful sites in France. Private property since 1897 (the public is not allowed), it has been the scene of sumptuous galas, fitting since the owner at the time had proclaimed himself “king of the island”! Its watchtower, square and crenellated, is made of the red rock of Estérel. The Ile d’Or was immortalised by author Hergé in “L’Ile noire” (The Black Island).
Agay Harbour
Agay, located on one of the most beautiful harbours on the Côte d’Azur, between the Cap Dramont and Baumette Point, is the natural doorway to the Estérel.
The Corniche d’Or
Hewn out of solid rock, it links Saint-Raphaël to Cannes, and was opened in 1903 by the “Touring Club de France”. It overlooks a stretch of the sea where you can see clear to the bottom.

The Estérel Massif
Between the waters of the Mediterranean and the limestone of Provence, the Estérel is a volcanic Massif of 32,000 hectares, including some 14,000 that are protected.
Its red rocks, which plunge down into the sea, highlight a land of light and colour, and make this a site of inexhaustible exploration: its precipitous slopes, its narrow gorges, and its sumptuous peaks of amaranthine lava.
Don’t miss out on the wonders of this area’s landscapes: Le pic de l’Ours (Bear Peak), Saint-Barthélémy’s rock, the Dramont calanque, Cap Roux overlook, Mont Vinaigre which tops out at 614 m, and the Perthus and Malinfernet ravines, along with their associated springs.
The Estérel Massif offers hikers aromatic vegetation, protected, brightly coloured. And there are opportunities for lots of recreational activities: hiking and horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, etc.
Vehicles are permitted on about 42 km of road, while trails have been designated for mountain biking (100 km of marked mountain biking trails), horse riders (100 km of horse trails) and hikers (40 km of hiking trails).
On the Golf Courses
Saint-Raphaël is a golfer’s paradise. Two 18-hole courses, one of which is 100 years old, and two 9-hole courses, make for courses unlike any others. A number of prestigious events are held when the weather is good. |
